Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and is a single standing mountain of the world, it rises high for 5895 metres above the sea level. Despite of its unique fears its summit is accessible by all ages depending on the ability of body to acclimatize, proper hiking clothes and mindsets most of the climbers manage to conquer the summit (the Uhuru peak).
There are about five routes used for ascending, descending or both. These routes are
1. Umbwe Route
It is a tough route where by a climber can use 6 days and 5 nights, the route is full of challenges such as steep slopes, muddy but full of beautiful scenery this requires experienced climbers
2. Machame
Route This is ascending route, most of its accomodation are movable tents to spend 5nights and 6 days
3. Shira Route
It is not commonly used route, most of its way is accessible by the 4-wheel car transport to almost 2800metres above the see, its full of beautiful scenery and unique vegetation cover but is the longest trekking route while ascending to the summit since it takes 7days and 6days
4. Marangu Route
The commonly used route for both ascending and descending with low requirements of the hiking tools, it is said to be the most easy route During ascending and descending the accomodation facilities are fully provided with all the basic necessities. Climbers are given matresses and pillows except the sleeping bags, public toilets,social halls and washrooms are provided at the huts. It is the shortest route where you spend only 5days and 4 night stay.
5. Rongai Route
It is not commonly used route due to its location and a nature, the route is located north east of Mount Kilimanjaro, if choosing this route you choose to meet the wilderness area of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park with large herds of forest wildlife and birds, it is also considered the easiest route to summit, climbers spend six days and five nights
